Navy’s Kaipo-Noa KaheakuEnhada will look to do on Saturday what no Midshipmen quarterback has been able to do in 44 years - lead his team to a win over Notre Dame.

Navy has qualified for a Bowl game in each of the last five years, but hasn’t beaten the Fighting Irish since eventual NFL Hall of Famer Roger Staubach led the Midshipmen to a 35-14 win in 1963. Notre Dame’s winning streak against Navy is the longest string of losses by one school to another in the history of major college football.

Kaheaku-Enhada, a former Kapolei standout, is in his second season as starting quarterback. He took over the job midway through the 2006 season, making his first career start against the Irish in Baltimore last October.Navy lost that game 38-14, but could have its best opportunity in years versus the Irish, who are off to their worst start in the school’s history.

Kaheaku-Enhada injured his neck in a loss to Wake Forest Oct. 20, but Navy coach Paul Johnson expected him to be ready for last weekend’s game with Delaware. To date, Kaheaku-Enhada has rushed for 633 yards and nine touchdowns through seven games, while throwing for an additional 626 yards and four scores. His best outing this season was against Pittsburgh Oct. 10 when he accounted for three touch-downs - one on the ground and two through the air - to lead Navy to a 48-45 win in double overtime.

Navy took a 4-3 record into the weekend. NBC will televise Saturday’s game to a national audience at 8:30 a.m. Play-by-play announcer Tom Hammonds and color analyst Pat Haden provide the call.
