Windward Artists Guild has assembled a panel of local art groups this Saturday to help new or unknown artists during the economic downturn with advice and venue options for their work.

The free public program runs from 9 a.m. to noon at Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden.

“I think there are a lot of people interested in this sort of thing,” said Linda Fox, education co-chair for WAG. “I hope to be able to inform members of the guild and other artists that there are places to sell their art despite the economy we’re in.”

The panel will discuss the venues they represent, night markets, street fairs and art festivals followed by a question-and-answer session. Application forms for the various events also will be available as well as the opportunity to join WAG.

Panelists include JoDee Hunt, owner of the Mendonca building and its Chinatown Courtyard, Suzie Anderson of the Gallery at Ward Centre and Wayne Tanaka of the Pauahi Tower Gallery.

“I will just be telling about how to apply for a spot (in the Courtyard) and hoping that there is a lot of new talent looking for a place to be seen,” said Hunt, a Lanikai resident. “We do create a little excitement because we are only open on First Friday, and the Courtyard is such a surprise for people who have not been there before.”
