Although Paliku Theatre is out of commission for a while, as they say in show biz, the show must go on.

The Paliku Academy of Performing Arts Summer Theatre Camp for Kids 2009 will take the stage at Castle High School’s Ronald E. Bright Theatre at 3 and 7 p.m. July 18 and 19 in the musical revue The Show Must Go On!

“Paliku Theatre is our first home, but due to renovations we needed to find another venue for the performances,” said John-Paul Tai, director of PAPA. “Ron Bright Theatre is great because of the large space and capacity for the audience.”

Presented in partnership with Castle Performing Arts Center, S.W. King Intermediate School and Kaneohe Elementary School, this show promises to make you laugh, cry and want to jump out of your seat to dance.

Expect great vocals, dancing and production numbers as the cast of 61 students illustrates just how a theater chooses what show to do. Along the way,the production team discovers some great choices, and even their cast has some ideas.

We’re not giving it away here. You’ll have see the show this weekend to find out just what musical they decide upon.

The Show Must Go On! includes songsfrom Sister Act II, Grease, Footloose, Hairspray and many more.

Reservations are required. Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased by calling 447-7570 or via e-mail at palikuacademyofperformingarts@gm ail.com.

Thanks to the help of the many parents and volunteers, the old tech room on the King Intermediate campus has been transformed into PAPA’s new dance studio, complete with a raised dance floor and mirrors. PAPA’s recent partnership with King Intermediate was made possible through the work of Tai and King principal Sheena Alaiasa.

“We are hoping that his partnership will turn into an after-school program for students during the school year, and continue as our summer program during the break,” said Tai.

“Together it’s been a great partnership that we hope will continue. We’ve only grown stronger in our efforts because our focus remains the same - for the kids!”

PAPA’s vision is for students to enjoy the theatre experience and understand the whole production process. Their main goal is not to create great performers, but for students to explore their talents and to teach them lessons they can apply to the stage and to life. Students also learn self-confidence, responsibility, team-work, leadership skills and the fun that theatre can bring into their lives.
