April marks a half-century of man venturing into outer space, and Windward Community College is celebrating with the presentation of Astronaut at Hokulani Imaginarium.

The high-definition, 360-degree, full dome video with surround sound gives viewers the feeling that they are in the process of exploring inner and outer space firsthand. And who better to narrate Astronaut than Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor - Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi in episodes I, II and III.

“We take school groups in from elementary through middle school to get them excited about science, to get them thinking about college early,” said WCC spokes-woman Bonnie Beatson, “and one of the exciting ways that we do that is through the Imaginarium.

Astronaut is very exciting because it has an astronaut character (named Chad) that goes through all of the challenges and perils of traveling through space. Kids really like that, they respond to the character and they kind of see themselves in this character too.”

The production is suitable for all ages, but Beatson recommends Astronaut for grades 4 and up. The hourlong show includes a live sky presentation about the constellations.

Astronaut will play at 7 p.m. April 8, May 13 and June 10. Admission is $5 for children 12 and under, $6 for UH students, military and seniors, and $7 general. For reservations, call 235-7433.
