Castle And Waimanalo Plan Recycling Drives

Del.icio.usTwo recycling drives are coming up this month, giving Windward residents a chance to rid themselves of multiple “other man’s treasures.”
Castle High School will conduct a drive from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the school parking lot, adding a canned food drive for Hawaii Foodbank, as well as accepting “an unlimited number” of residential and commercial computers.
The Aloha ‘Aina Earth Day also will offer a shredding service from 8 to 11 a.m., though donors are limited to two banker boxes each. Residents also can exchange two incandescent bulbs for two CFLs per person.
All kinds of metal, appliances, HI-5 containers, cooking oil, cell phones, printer cartridges, phone books, magazines, plastic bottle caps and batteries are welcome at the school. Goodwill and Lions clubs will make use of any donated clothing, household items, hearing aids and eyeglasses.
For curbside pickup, call Raylene Pratt at 520-6250 or Rene Mansho of Schnitzer Steel at 306-1876. Also involved are area lawmakers and dozens of businesses and organizations.
Waimanalo plans a similar recycling drive - in conjunction with a street and stream cleanup - from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 22 at Waimanalo Beach Park, organized by Hui o Ko’olaupoko and Oahu Resource Conservation and Development Council. To volunteer or arrange for curbside pickup, call 381-7202.
