With traffic crashes a leading cause of death for children over 1 year old, safe car seats are a must. Yet studies show that up to 80 percent of them are not used or installed correctly.

Windward United Church of Christ will host a child car seat and booster seat inspection from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday to help reduce those statistics.

Certified safety technicians will be on site to give free inspections on a first-come, first-served basis at the church, located across from Aikahi Park Shopping Center at 38 Kaneohe Bay Drive.

The inspection is sponsored by Kaiser Permanente Hawaii and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
