State Department of Land and Natural Resources staff will update Kailua residents on area projects from 5:30 to 8 tonight (Feb. 1) at Kainalu Elementary School on Kaiholu Street.

“This is an opportunity for the community to learn about the precious natural resources that surround their neighborhood and how to protect and preserve them,” said state Sen. Pohai Ryan, sponsor of the event.

The agenda includes DLNR deputy director Guy Kaulukukui, Ed Underwood of the Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation-Kailua Bay, and Paul Conry of the Division of Foresty and Wildlife-Offshore Islands. Conry will discuss Hamakua Wetlands, Kawainui and Ulupo heiau.

The briefing also includes exhibits, refreshments and a screening of the DLNR’s half-hour film on watershed protection, The Rain Follows the Forest, featuring Hawaii actor Jason Scott Lee.
