First Wind Has College Grants

Del.icio.usFirst Wind has good news for students who live near its wind turbine complex, Kahuku Wind: The scholarship line is now open.
The independent wind energy company is taking applications from high school seniors in the Kahuku area through Feb. 15 for its $3,000 undergraduate college scholarships and also for a $5,000 renewal grant of up to four years for the most qualified applicant.
“We are pleased to expand our successful First Wind Scholars program to our project sites throughout the Northeast, West and Hawaii,” said Carol Grant, senior vice president of external affairs. “We’re so impressed with the candidates and recipients that we got to know through last year’s program.”
The company seeks students earning a 3.0 or above gpa who are planning full-time study with a major in earth and/or environmental sciences, technology or engineering. Applications include a 300-word essay.
This year it’s also expanding the scholarship area to include Wahiawa, Waialua, Haleiwa and Sunset Beach, which are near its planned Kawailoa Wind project.
