While Brian Lee closed the doors Jan. 31 on Lee’s Korean Bar-B-Q after 18 years, he is not going out of business - nor is he going anywhere far.

Lee will move from his restaurant space at Koolau Center near the theaters to the other end of the center, next to Times Supermarket,to start Koolau Snack Shop.

Slated to open March 15, it will have bubble drinks, shave ice, manapua, hot dogs, crack seed and Korean treats ready to grab-and-go.

Lee said he chose to shift from barbecue to snacks as a way to spend more time with his wife and children, yet he relishes the opportunity to get a new business off the ground. After all, he has had his hand in multiple ventures, including a jewelry store.

The shopping center in Ahuimanu also will welcome a hula halau soon in the former Ipu Kula Gallery space.
