To supply homeless keiki for the school year, Locations Foundation stages its Backpack to School drive July 6-9 at Windward Prudential Locations, 151 Hekili St. in Kailua, and at its Windward Mall kiosk.

School supplies also will be accepted at any of the company’s open houses this Sunday and July 11.

In observance Prudential’s 40th year in Hawaii, the company aims to collect enough items to fill 1,000 backpacks. Needed from the public are Elmer’s glue sticks and four-ounce bottles, writing supplies, composition books, folder paper, white erasers, binders, rulers and 24-packs of Crayola crayons.

“It’s heartbreaking to know that thousands of keiki start school without basic supplies,” said drive chairman James Chan. “For nearly 10 years, our Backpack to School event has provided children at homeless shelters with the tools necessary to succeed in school.”
