Hawaii Pacific University will hold auditions Friday through Sunday for John Gurare’s satirical comedy The House of Blue Leaves.

Set in Queens in 1965 during the pope’s visit to New York, the play mocks religion and celebrity while juggling the chaotic life of a zookeeper, his crazy wife, his girlfriend and his dreams of being a Hollywood songwriter. The title refers to a mental institution.

There are roles for 11 adults, and scripts can be viewed at HPU’s Kaneohe and downtown libraries. Tryouts start at 7 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday and Sunday in Paul and Vi Loo Theatre in Kaneohe.

Directed by Joyce Maltby, the play will run from Nov. 4 to Dec. 4 with rehearsals every weeknight from 7 to 10, and some weekends. For more information, call 254-0853.
