Recent works by Emily McIlroy are on view now through March 2 at Hawaii Pacific University’s art gallery on the Hawaii Loa campus.

“Shadows to Shallows” evokes the ocean and its underwater forces and life force, explained McIlroy, an award-winning young artist and native of Oklahoma. She also has been an instructor with the Honolulu Academy of Arts “Art to Go” outreach program.

“Suspended somewhere between the shadows and the source,” she said, “my work suggests entry into a world that is as unstable and sinister as it is suffused with hope for healing an alien, wayward realm in which all is lost, and anything is possible.”

Located in the main academic building, the gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m Monday-Saturday. Call 544-0228.
