A girls soccer team has seen the light and plans to help the world and help its own travel fund with a four-day light bulb exchange in Kailua and Waimanalo.

Residents can exchange their old incandescent bulbs for CFLs (compact fluorescent light bulbs) for free, and the Kailua AYSO U-19 team will be paid 40 cents per each old bulb as its reward for promoting clean, renewable energy.

The fundraiser is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday (Oct. 4-6) at Kailua District Park, and 4 to 6 p.m. at the far end of the parking lot near Kailua Intermediate; and from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Waimanalo District Park.

The team’s goal is to exchange 1,000 bulbs this month with proceeds going to pay for its trip to the 2012 National Games in Knoxville, Tenn., next July.
