Triple C’s Smokehouse & Grill opened in Kaneohe just two months ago, featuring Texas-style barbecue ribs. The menu also offers sandwiches, wraps, burgers and a handful of sides.

Owner Claude Crawford, a native of Omaha, landed in Hawaii after being stationed here in the Navy. He retired from the Navy six years ago.

“Right before I retired, I started a food truck,” he said, noting that the truck still feeds many at the shipyard and Pearl Harbor headquarters. With the food truck having much success, a few years later the Navy Exchange asked Crawford to open a smokehouse and grill at the Pearl Harbor base, which he did. Then many of his military customers asked when he would open up a shop in Kaneohe so they could bring their families to eat with them.

So here he is on Kahuhipa Street.

Crawford started smoking meats two-and-a-half years ago when he opened up shop at the Pearl Harbor base. “My grandma owned three clubs, and all were smokehouses and grills. I just watched, and by observing and putting my own techniques together that’s how I learned how to smoke. It’s pretty easy,” he said.

Hot menu items include the Full Rack of Ribs, the Mixed Plate and the Brisket Plate. The smoked chicken and smoked pork also are popular.

Triple C’s Smokehouse & Grill is open daily at 46132 Kahuhipa St. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call 2358878.
