Hui o Ko’olaupoko and Oahu Resource Conservation Development Council will co-sponsor their second annual community cleanup from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Waimanalo Beach Park.

To arrange for curbside pick-up, call Kristen Mailheau at 381-7202. For free towing of unwanted cars, call Rene Mansho at 306-1876.

Besides all kinds of scrap metal, items sought include HI-5 containers, cell phones, batteries, printer cartridges, magazines and cardboard, cooking oil, phone books, computers, plastic bags and hangers, household items and much more.

“Last year we recycled six pallets of computers and electronic equipment, 60 tires, numerous batteries and a variety of scrap metal,” said Mailheau, community coordinator for Hui o Ko’olaupoko.

Volunteers also may sign up to sort the donations at the park or join the street and stream cleanup team, picking up litter throughout the watershed.

Joining local businesses to help with the drive are sponsors Schnitzer Steel Hawaii, and city and state agencies.

The next community recycling drive in Windward is a mini drive set Feb. 19 at Kalaheo High School.
