As Hawaii residents pour out their hearts and pocketbooks for Japan, a Kaneohe Zumba instructor has taken it one step, jump and lunge further.

Kehaulani Volhein, who teaches Zumba Fitness in Ahuimanu Valley and at Heeia State Park, is organizing a Zumbathon benefit from 1 to 3 p.m. April 23 in Kamehameha Schools’ Kekuhaupi’o Gym, featuring a dozen instructors from around the island. Admission is $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Proceeds from “Zumba Love for Japan” will go to the American Red Cross for that devastated nation.

For more information, go to zumbaforacausehawaii.com.

Volhein’s Zumba Fitness classes meet at 9 a.m. Tuesdays at Windward Family Wellness Center (in Koolau Center) and 4 p.m. Thursdays and 6 p.m Fridays at the state park. For details on classes, visit zumbawithkehau.com.
