Band members were working instead of making music as the Kailua High School Band Boosters staged a steak dinner benefit Oct. 22 at the school, slipping in a silent auction for good measure along with nearly 500 juicy grilled steaks. At $10 per ticket, the group cleared $6,200 — most of it going to support the band’s trip to Tokyo next March. “They’re pretty remarkable musicians,” says boosters president Cheryl Ernst. “And director Henry Fu is fun but demanding.” In case you missed the steaks, the boosters want you to know there’s a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 18 at the school, and car washes from 9 am. to 3 p.m. Nov. 5 and 19 at the Kailua Shell station. Help the music play on. (Check out kailuaband.com)
