The Waimanalo Polo Season opened June 11, a little later than usual because of the spring floods, but fans (shown here) made up for the delay by flocking to the Honolulu Polo Club field across from Bellows. The day opened with a polo pony parade and pa‘u riders, followed by a Hawaiian blessing given by the Rev. Tom Van Culin of the nearby St. Matthews Episcopal Church. Of course, the on-field action was even better. On June 18, the club marked Father’s Day by celebrating Robert MacGregor, the founder of the Polo Club; June 25 is the Naturally Hawaiian League tourney. Polo matches continue at 2:30 p.m. every Sunday from now through Oct. 22. The gate (off Aloiloi Street) opens at 1 p.m. For details, call 521-6927.
