There’s nothing strange about the sounds coming from Bay View Restaurant, usually on the third Tuesday night of the month. It’s just the Kanile’a Ukulele Club having a workshop and jam session with Hawaii’s favorite instrument, plus food, of course. Joe and Kristen Souza, who own Kanile’a Ukulele in Kaneohe, have hosted the sessions since last March as a way for their customers to learn and for master players to share their skills - at no charge. It’s a Bring Your Own Uke affair, and the hamburgers are great, Kristen says. At the Sept. 25 gathering, Les Harris of Kalaeloa was the featured musician. The Souzas’ business motto is to “spread aloha through music.” After all, Kanile’a means “joyful sound.” To join the party, call 234-2868.
