The Kaneohe Aikido Club was to hold its spring promotion ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Monday (May 21), when it was also to award an honorary black belt to Lt. Gov. Duke Aiona “for his efforts in keeping Hawaii’s youths safe and drug-free.”
Aiona was scheduled to address the club after the ceremonies, which also recognize progress made by its students.
Established in 1965, the self-defense school is based at the Kaneohe Community and Senior Center on Puohala Street, where it conducts classes each Monday and Wednesday evening. Chief instructor is Sensei Gene Naipo.
