In a match-up of former BYU-Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific University stand-outs, the team from BYUH prevailed.

Third-seeded Wei-Yu Su and Minh Le culminated a riveting run to the Blue Moon Kailua Racquet Club Men’s Night Doubles tournament title recently by outlasting fifth-seeded Mikael Maatta and Jan Tribler 6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-4 in the championship match Aug. 6. The match had been delayed during the first set due to inclement weather.

Forty-four doubles teams took part in the tournament, long considered the premiere tennis event in the Islands.

It marked the first-ever Men’s Night Doubles championship for Wei-Yu Su and Minh Le, both of whom had played for BYUH. They walked away with $2,600 in prize money, while Mikael Maatta and Jan Tribler took home $1,600 for placing second. Minh Le and Wei Yu Su also were given one year honorary membership to the club in a tradition started last year. Tribler was awarded the Peter Isaak Sportsmanship Award.
