Chaminade second baseman Keli-Grace KaowiliSanatian has made her presence known early on this softball season for the Silverswords, who hope to be in the mix for a PacWest championship. The senior and former Kahuku stand-out was recently named to the league’s weekly honor roll after hitting .455 in four games (a pair of wins over Brigham Young-Hawaii and a pair of losses to Simon Fraser).

She also collected three doubles and drove in six runs in that span to go with a .727 slugging percentage. A Hauula resident, KaowiliSanatian recently took some time away from her school day as well as softball practice to answer some questions for the Windward Islander.

What is your earliest sports-related memory? When I was 5, I played on the same team as my older brother (Keenan). I was horrible. It was an all-boys team, and they were all more coordinated. I went to our first practice, and the sprinklers were on. I ran under the sprinklers and away from the team.

What part of the game did you work on in off-season? My hitting. That is the strongest part of my game right now - stronger than my defense.

What is your least-favorite household chore? Probably cleaning the yard - cleaning up after the dog, raking leaves, and there are usually geckos and insects. I don’t do bugs. I feel like this should be my brother’s job.

Are you the life of the party or the girl who stands by and listens? Depends on the situation. I can be both. It also depends on my mood, but I always have fun. I haven’t gone out in awhile since our season started.

What site do you frequent the most on the Internet? Probably Facebook - mostly to keep in touch with friends and with my softball teammates.

Who on the CUH team will surprise people in 2010? I think Kori Berinobis (Kaneohe/Castle), just because of the way she’s stepped up. I am amazed at how good she is for a freshman. She’s probably one of the top defensive players and top batters. She’ll probably be recognized by the (Pacific West) Conference (as an all-league selection).

When you’re on the Windward side and you’re hungry, where do you go to eat? I love to go to Papa Ole’s (Kitchen) in Hauula Shopping Center. Most of the time I order the breakfast special - Portuguese sausage, eggs and rice, although I try to change it up and order every breakfast thing they have.

What movie could you watch over and over? Probably Forgetting Sarah Marshall. It’s the most recent movie I’ve seen. Anything that’s funny, I can watch over and over again.

What’s your favorite place to play when on the road with Chaminade? Probably Turlock, Calif. We always go there for the Tour of Champions Tournament. In the Islands, we mostly play the same teams over and over again. It’s nice at the tournament to see different teams and challenge them. Sometimes we play three games a day.

Are you a neat freak or messy? I think I’m a neat freak. Most of the time, I try to stay organized. I have to know where everything is, and when I’m not organized, I still know where everything is.

Who’s had the biggest impact on you in your life? My parents (Lance and Casey). They worked hard for their kids when I was growing up, and they pushed me to go to school and to play sports. I’m proud to have them as my parents.

You are stuck on the island of Kahoolawe. You have an endless supply of one food. What would it be?

Any type of pasta. I like Mama’s Spaghetti House at Ala Moana. They have the best pasta ever.
