Kailua Gets Home Field Help

Del.icio.usKailua won’t have to wait long to make a statement in the new football season. That was assured when the OIA East Red schedule was announced, revealing that the Surfriders would play Kahuku Aug. 20 on the road.
Kailua also plays Pac Five Aug. 28, Roosevelt Sept. 3, Moanalua Sept. 10, Farrington Sept. 17, at Kaiser Sept. 24, Castle Oct. 9, and a bye on Oct. 16.
Breaking down the schedule: Five home games in seven weeks is favorable, and the toughest ones are nicely spaced as well. While they open at Kahuku and close against Castle, there could be a nice run of wins in between.
Can’t-miss game 1: Versus Castle Oct. 2. The bleachers should be full as these teams battle for the Hammer trophy.
A lot is on the line in playoff positioning as well as Hawaii’s best rivalry. Kailua last won this series two years ago at home, so they’d be happy to repeat the task. Kailua also has an extra week at the end to heal up and prepare for an OIA first round playoff game.
Can’t-miss game 2: At Kahuku Aug. 20. It may be better to play the Red Raiders early, and a win here would obviously set the tone that Kailua would like to have. It needs only to be the better of the two on the night they play. It’s a great opportunity.
Trap game: At Kaiser Sept. 24. This would seem a likely time for a letdown. Kailua’s visit will find Kaiser playing its fourth straight home game. Also, with Kaiser having been in Division II the past few years, they are a team of unknowns. This will be Kailua’s first away game in nearly a month.
Fourth-down forecast: If the Surfriders can win the games they will likely be favored to win - versus Pac Five, Roosevelt, Moanalua and Kaiser - they will be nicely positioned for the OIA post-season. Rivalry games with Kahuku and Castle are big challenges, so the Sept. 19 Farrington game could end up making a huge difference.
