Morita Is Wrestler of the Year

Kahuku High’s Daniel Morita has been named the Oahu Interscholastic Association Eastern Division’s Wrestler of the Year, the league announced recently.

Morita helped lead Kahuku to its fourth straight OIA title this winter and was one of eight Red Raiders to be named as a First Team All-Star in the East. Selections are made by the league coaches. Joining Morita on the East’s First Team were Roger Ramones (103-pound weight class), Michael Kamiya (112), Richard Torres (135), Vincent Domingo (140), Nevin Kamakaala (145), Ira Casey (160) and Clellan Aalona (189).


Daymon Carr (152), Kaeo Alo (215) and Justin Abregano (275) were named to the Second Team from Kahuku. Red Raider coach Reggie Torres was named the league’s Coach of the Year.

Castle’s Hanalei Grammar (275) was also named to the East’s First Team, while Randall Saro (112) and Kelii Ah Quin (171) received Second Team honors for the Knights.

Ikaika Bumgarner (103) was named to the Second Team from Kailua.
