If it seems like Oregon State setter Camilla Ah-Hoy has been playing for the Beavers for a decade, it’s only because she always makes an immediate impact on every team she plays for.

At Kahuku High, where she played for her parents, coaches Mona and Irwin Ah-Hoy, she was a significant contributor to its state title run as a freshman in 2002. Arriving at Oregon State four years later, she started eight games as a freshman before an ACL injury undermined her momentum. She’s been a starter for OSU ever since.

This fall, the 5-10 senior is closing out a solid college career for the Beavers, who were in Ann Arbor, Mich. over the weekend for the Adidas Invitational. OSU begins Pac 10 play Friday by hosting Washington State. Ah-Hoy, the 2005 OIA Player of the Year, took some time away from the volleyball court last week to be interviewed by MidWeek.

What website do you frequent the most? When not during school, I would say Facebook. I just like keeping in contact with friends and family back home. When in school, it’s OregonState.edu!

If you opened your own business, what would it be? I love sports, so anything sports-related. Coaching is actually what I would like to do. My mom is an assistant coach at BYUH now, so I’d like to go home and do that. I want to coach at the college level, so we’ll see. I have been coaching as a volunteer at North Shore Volleyball Club when back home.

Is it true that the OSU football coaches discovered your cousin, Al Afalava, (now of the Chicago Bears) when its also was recruiting you for volleyball ? Actually, it was the other way around. He (Afalava) is the reason I came here. When his position coach (Mark Banker) used to come and visit him in Hawaii, I got to know him, too.

What is your least favorite household chore? Putting away laundry. I don’t mind folding it, I just don’t like putting it away.

When you’re back in Laie and you’re hungry, where do you go to eat? My favorite place to eat would be at home. My mom and dad both cook. I miss everything they cook, but my dad makes this steak-and-vegetable thing that I love. It’s one of my favorite meals. Since moving here, I don’t like rice anymore.

What’s been the biggest adjustment going from prep volleyball to Division I college play? The competitiveness for sure and the height (of the prototypical DI player). The level of play in Pac 10 is a lot faster. You could

get away with things in high school. You always have to be low and ready for the ball to come fast.

Who’s OSU’s best ‘practice player’? I would say (fellow senior) Brittney Belshe, who is a defensive specialist/libero. She gives 100 percent every day, and she has one of the best attitudes on the team.

What kind of car do you drive? I drive a ‘96 Ram4.

What kind of car would you like to drive? I don’t really have a favorite car, but I love trucks and big SUVs.

Are you messy or a neat freak? During fall camp, I barely have time to clean my room, but I like things clean and neat. My parents were always on me about being clean and neat when I was growing up.

What movie can you watch over and over again? I love The Notebook - it’s a love story - and all of the Disney films. I didn’t really grow out of the Disney movies.

Are you the life of the party or the girl who stands by and listens? It depends on the situation. With my team, I’m pretty much the goofy one. With my family, or with people I don’t know, I stand back. I’m pretty outgoing, though.
