Tiffany‘s hit song I Think We’re Alone Now takes me back to the days when the pleasures of life included creating silly dance routines with my cousin in our pop-star outfits. It was this song and Whitney Houston‘s I Wanna Dance With Somebody that had us thinking our moves (and we) were way cool.
Tiffany’s first self-titled release was perhaps one of the first and few legitimate cassette tapes I’ve ever owned. Back then, my music collection mostly amounted to mixed tapes I managed to record from the radio.
So you can image that, when I heard Tiffany was coming to Hawaii for a concert, a flood of sentimental memories came to mind. That’s the magic of music.
Tiffany will bring back the ‘80s on Friday, July 17, at Pipeline Cafe. Doors open at 8 p.m., and tickets cost $20 general and $50 VIP. For tickets, call 1-877-71-GROOVE.
She’ll perform old favorites including I Think We’re Alone Now, Could’ve Been, I Saw Him Standing There, along with material off her dance album Dust Off and Dance and recently released album Just Me.
Other projects that have kept Tiffany busy over the years include NBC-TV’s hit show Hit Me Baby One More Time, a reality show where former pop stars compete, singing their biggest hit song along with a cover contemporary hit. She also recently starred in VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club and just finished filming a new reality show for the CMT network ...
With so much going on to celebrate our nation’s independence, Aloha Tower Marketplace will start the party a day early with its annual Pre-Independence Day celebration Friday, July 3. Beginning at 5 p.m., the marketplace will explode with non-stop live entertainment, a fashion show, activities for the entire family and, of course, a fireworks display.
And all is free. And if you get a little hungry, there also will be a variety of food stations by marketplace eateries, with other food and drink specials offered at participating restaurants.

Here’s a short schedule of events: On the Atrium Stage, enjoy an ukulele performance by TJ & Micah and KINE Radio giveaways, as well as the Red, White and Blue Jeans Fashion Show by New Media Productions. At Gordon Biersch, enjoy country western dancing, followed by music from Ten Feet at 9 p.m. At Chai’s, Willie K will make an appearance from 7 to 8 p.m., and at Don Ho’s, Mihana Souza will perform from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Also catch the Johnny Rock Society at Bikini Cantina. At the Pier 9 stage, enjoy music by Pacific Fleet Band (7 p.m.), HAPA (8 p.m.). And finally, it’s the Hawaii Explosives and Pyrotechnics Fireworks Show at 8:45 p.m ...
If you can handle the traffic and the parking congestion, Ala Moana Center plans an awe-some annual Fourth of July celebration. It does it so big that it has earned the title of Hawaii’s largest Independence Day fireworks show.
But before the big light show, there’s a full day of entertainment that includes a slew of Na Hoku award winners. Performing on the center stage, noon-1 p.m., is Maunalua, followed by Touch Of Gold and then Taimane Gardner. On the main stage, enjoy Anita Hall, 5-5:30 p.m.; Hoku Zuttermeister, 5:35-6:05 p.m.; Nathalie Ai Kamauu, 6:10-6:40 p.m.; BET, 6:45-7:15 p.m.; Pali, 7:30-7:50 p.m.; and Manoa DNA, 7:55-8:30 p.m. ...
And just when you thought the fireworks were over, there’s BayFest. Tickets for this all-out summer family festival go on sale this week and are expected to sell out. Not only will it bring in top-notch national acts, but to celebrate its 20th anniversary, it’s bringing in its biggest headline act to date, Black Eyed Peas!
The festival, happening Aug. 14-16 at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe, will host the Grammy-award winning quartet comprised on will.i.am, Fergie, apl.de.ap and Taboo. They will perform on the JN Automotive main stage Saturday, Aug. 15, at 8:30 p.m.
Expect hits such as Let’s Get It Started, Don’t Phunk with My Heart and Boom Boom Pow, a recent No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.
Tickets for the concert are available June 27 on www.bayfesthawaii.com. Cost is $45 advance and $55 at the gate.
