Kapala releases debut CD

The group Kapala may be new to the scene with its debut album Imprint, but its members definitely aren’t.

A blend of music veterans and friends, Kapala is Kimo Artis, Kalanikai Artis, Lopaka Ho’opi’i, Richard Heirakuji, Shawn Ishimoto, Abe Lagrimas Jr., Adriano Larioza and Zanuck Lindsey. Using their experience and talents, they hope to make their own “imprint” (hence the album title) on today’s music scene. Their sound combines traditional and contemporary Hawaiian music with ethnic, jazz, urban and soul. Their innovative sound is heard in five original songs composed by the band and eight classic Hawaiian songs on which they’ve put their creative spin.

They describe it as a musical roller coaster that excites your senses. The list of guest artists is impressive: Robert Cazimero, Keali’i Reichel, Augie T., Daniel Asao, Jeff Au, Karen Bechtel, Matt Catingub, Dan Del Negro, Bill Griffin, Pat Hennessey, DeShannon Higa, Bailey Matsuda, CJ Silva, Dean Taba, Tim Tsukiyama, Scott Villiger, Todd Yukumoto and Michael Ruff ...

Spend Christmas Eve with C&K at the Royal Hawaiian

A big mahalo nui to Lezlee Ka’aihue, wife of Henry Kapono Ka’aihue, for the invitation to attend C&K‘s Curators of Hawaiian Music show at the Royal Hawaiian last week Thursday.

It was magical! Cecilio and Kapono’s performance was flawless! Watching these two music legends perform classics that I grew up with brought back so many comforting memories.

Their music is truly comfort food for the soul.

There’s still one more night to share 36 years of music with C&K. Their next Lifetime Party is happening on Christmas Eve at the Monarch Room and will include a dinner buffet. Tickets are $149 kamaaina, $99 children ages 5-12.

Tickets to STOMP are priced at $35, $45 and $55 and are available by phone at 528-0506 or online at http://www.hawaiitheatre.com. “Low-dough pricing” has been created for select performances.
