Fun in the sun is just what these musicians have in mind. Here’s a peek at some outdoor concerts happening this summer.
Load up the keiki and head over to Honolulu Zoo, because the Wildest Show In Town summer concert series is back. There will be lots of monkeying around every Wednesday when top Island musicians take the zoo’s center stage.
The fun begins at 6 p.m. and gates open at 4:35 for a tour of zoo grounds. Admission is just $3 per person and all the money raised supports Honolulu Zoo Society’s conservation education programs.
Here’s the good part: Performing tonight is Barrett & tara awai. On June 22, Roy sakuma and his super Keiki Friends take the stage, and June 29 it’s Kelly Boy De Lima. The series continues through July with Manoa Dna July 6, Ukulele Extravaganza featuring ohta san July 13, Melveen Leed July 20 and Jimmy Borges and his Jazz Friends July 27.

Frank De Lima will make an appearance Aug. 3, and capping off the series Aug. 10 is Ho’okena.

Spend Sunday afternoon at Waimea Valley for its monthly Waimea Valley Kanikapila, a jam session that celebrates traditional Hawaiian music. This month’s hosts are the abrigo ohana and Ke Kani nahe, onstage Sunday, June 19 from 1 to 4 p.m.

All ages and skill levels are welcome to share in the perpetuation of traditional Hawaiian music. Amplification will be available, so bring an instrument cable if you would like to plug in. Or just sit back and enjoy the company.
The Waimea Valley Kanikapila is a grass roots effort to keep traditional Hawaiian music alive and well. Admission is free. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Heating up summer nights for the seventh year is the Hawaii Kai Towne Center’s annual summer concert series, Sunset Serenade.
Kicking off the three-part series is Na Hoku Hanohano award-winning singer Melveen Leed at the Waterfront Stage on June 25 at 5:30 p.m.

Next up is Danny couch, also a Na Hoku Hanohano award-winning artist, on June 25. The series concludes Aug. 13 with traditional Hawaiian music provided by the always entertaining na Palapalai.

Just down the road, Kona Brewing Company hosts a talented lineup of musicians at its indoor/outdoor restaurant this weekend.
Thursday night (June 16) Bluzilla and the corey Funai Band will perform from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. On Friday, Mailani Makainai will serenade dinner guests with music from her self-titled solo release that earned her a Na Hoku Hanohano award for Female Vocalist of the Year in 2010.
Occupying the weekend spots are Boogie on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Ledward Kaapana on Sunday from 6 to 8:30 ...
