The 1980s were much more than big hair, bright colors and fingerless gloves. The decade also spit out fun and nostalgic songs that the folks of my generation just can’t get out of our system.

Lucky for us, Big Ben Entertainment is gearing up for its third annual Ladies of the ‘80s Concert June 19 at Blaisdell Arena.

Leg warmers are not required, but get ready to be transported back 30 years as Expose, J.J. Fad, Lisa Lisa & the Cult Jam and Klymaxx bust out the hits that made it one unforgettable ride. And making her debut performance is Hawaii’s very own upand-coming R&B artist Azure.

Expose, the group that made history with four Top 10 hits on its debut album, will be bringing it back with original members Ann Curless, Jeanette Jurado and Gioia Bruno. They went on to become the first girl group to have seven back-to-back Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100.

Be there to hear the songs that made this group a chart-topper, such as Come Go With Me, Exposed To Love, Point of No Return and Let Me Be The One, to name a few.

Lisa Lisa brings her dance jams to the stage

“We were there to perform at Pipeline in 2008,” says Bruno. “We had a blast and got to spend time with everyone after the show, signing pictures and T-shirts. Oh, and the after party was fantastic!”

Also coming to the stage is the first hip-hop girl trio to go platinum, J.J. Fad. Supersonic, produced by The Arabian Prince and Dr. Dre, was No. 1 on the pop charts and a Top 10 R&B hit. They’re back and ready to rock the mic again.

Lisa Lisa & the Cult Jam will bring to the stage their freestyle dance jams: Head To Toe, I Wonder If I Take You Home and Can You Feel the Beat.

All-female R&B, funk band Klymaxx took the music industry by storm in 1986 when it produced Billboard Magazine’s No. 3 song of the year, I Miss You. Original guitarist Cheryl Cooley is back with her production introducing six exciting new members.

Last year’s show nearly sold out with almost 7,000 tickets purchased. And this year they’re expecting all 8,000 will go, so get ‘um early. Ticket prices are $100 for VIP seating, $75 and $45 for general. Tickets are available online at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 306-9604.
