Three Concerts And Some Stinkeye

Last year, OOSpot‘s DJs Against AIDS raised $2,100 for Hawaii’s Life Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to stopping the spread of HIV and AIDS and to assist people living with it. DJs Against AIDS is an annual event that donates 100 percent of its proceeds to Life Foundation, and has raised well over $40,000 in its 15-year history.
This year OOSpot delivers again with a mind-blowing lineup of DJs volunteering their time. In honor of World AIDS Day Dec. 1, the event kicks off Dec. 2 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Hula’s Bar and Lei Stand. The 21-and-over party features DJs Nickolus, Rayne, Honu, Maxxx, Ksm, Betty, Mr. Nick, Daniel J and G-Spot. The fundraiser moves on Dec. 3 to The Warehouse, where a slew of DJs will entertain the 16-and-over crowd from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. Taking turns are DJs Scarrd, Nightmarcher, Dallas Debauch, Big Red, G-Spot, 720, Kali, Mindgame, Audissey and Jack.
“Getting DJs to volunteer is not the problem; it’s that we have so many who want to get involved that we don’t have enough time for them all,” says G-Spot, promotions director for OOSpot.
What began as a one-night gig has evolved into a two-night event thanks to the overwhelming response of DJs wanting to lend their talents to a good cause.
“With the advent of more DJs and the importance of reaching different age groups, last year we tried two nights, and it worked out better than we expected,” adds G-Spot, who has been DJing at the event for all of its 15 years. “We do a 21-andover event and a second non-alcohol event for the youths.”

Another great evening of talent for a great cause is A Night of Hope, a family-fun concert to raise funds for the Hawaii Children’s Cancer Foundation Dec. 3 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Word of Life in Honolulu.

The concert features Kaulana Pakele, Ten Feet, Natural Vibrations, Maoli and a special appearance by former NFL Pittsburgh Steelers running back Chris Fuamata-Ma’afala.
A Night of Hope is inspired by 6-year-old Isabella Sepulveda and her fight against acute stage 3 leukemia. Her family and friends organized the event to raise awareness about childhood cancers and leukemia, and to spread the message of hope: for a cure, for the renewed health for Hawaii’s keiki and for more support for families touched by cancer.

Also happening this Friday and every Friday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. are live alternative and dance rock hits from the ‘80s, ‘90s with Stinkeye at Coconut Willy’s aka CW’s.
The group welcomes newest member Dawn Moore. Besides giving the band a woman’s touch, she also serves up solid vocals with more than 15 years of experience. She’s taken the stage with bands such as Chasing Dawn, LSA, Moniskat 7, Sticky and Snow White Knobs.
She joins Brian Mikami on guitar and vocals, Clarence Lee on guitar, Brian (Lance) Starustka on bass, and Kevin Rost on drums.
“We’re the same band. It’s just that we have a rockin’ girl singer now,” says Mikami.
