To calm adult tempers and foster good sportsman-ship in life and on the field, Community Works in 96744 will sponsor a coaches’ workshop on “Coaching for Culture, Practices and Games” at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 10 at Heeia Elementary School.

Focused on athletic performance and character development, the workshop awards certification from the Positive Coaching Alliance upon completion.

It follows up on an earlier meeting, “Coaching for Winning and Life Lessons.”

“Feedback from the workshops on the Windward side has been very positive,” said Susan Wada, part of the 96744 alliance. “The coaches would like us to continue to have more, and they would like to have the second level,” she said, noting that parent workshops also have drawn really positive feedback.

“Part of the beauty of the workshop is it’s about the children and how we best can support them, but a lot of what they talk about can improve your own relationship to your family.”

The next parent workshop, “Positive Sports Parenting,” is March 10 at Heeia, to help present healthy role models to 4- to 12-year-old athletes. To RSVP for either workshop, call 233-7306 or 235-7747.
