You know that friend you have who wears impossibly cute clothes and funky accessories and always looks chic and fun and well put together? Well, now you can finally raid her closet.

The resale boutique My Girlfriend’s Closet opened in Kailua in August with stylish, gently used clothes and accessories. It has tops, jeans, shorts, skirts dresses, jewelry, bags, some brand names, as well as items from Wet Seal, Forever 21 and PacSun.

There’s something for everyone, said owner and Kailua resident Tenora Watt from casual beach clothes to professional wear to a cute outfit for a night out. Price range is $10 to $50.

“We’re trying to fit everybody’s needs, but still stay young and hip.”

Watt began collecting from thrift stores and garage sales. She also has a tradein system where customers can bring in their own items for store credit. “Now people bring in bags of clothes almost daily,” she said.

That means the collection constantly changes and grows. She’s now buffing up her workout-clothes section and acquiring more sizes; winter clothing has started to come in as well.

The shop’s opening marks the realization of Watt’s long-held dream of owning her own business. Plus: “I am a shopper a bargain shopper, a thrift store shopper, and I like clothes.”

She previously was an occupational therapist assistant, working with children who have autism and learning disabilities. It’s a passion she still manages to combine with her new gig. Once a month, Watt brings in a group of students for vocational training.

“They’ve been doing cash register work because I was working with them on money exchange, and they have been tagging the clothes ... and setting up the store in the morning. It’s a really great opportunity for them.”

This month she’s raising money for breast cancer awareness by selling pins, Tic Tacs and lollipops. She also put a piggybank in the store’s center. For every time someone says “cute,” they plunk a quarter in the bank and proceeds will be donated. With all the cute clothes nearby, better bring a roll of quarters.

But what really sets My Girlfriend’s Closet apart is the friendly, intimate customer service. A group of teen girls, for example, visited recently, so Watt said she cranked up the music (Justin Bieber per their request) and scoured the store with them to find that perfect outfit.

“They had the best time, and that’s kind of what this is all about: I get to share people’s shopping experiences, and then I kind of become their girlfriend, too.”

The shop is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 11 a.m-4 p.m. Sunday at 310 Kuulei Road.
