Democracy at the local level is going to be very up-to-date in the 2011 neighborhood board elections.
Residents can vote online or by phone between May 2 and May 20, and new members will take office July 1 for a two-year term.
Anyone who voted in the 2010 state elections is eligible to vote and should have received a passcode, voter information and candidate profiles via snail mail “during the last week of April.”
For those who don’t have a computer, instructions are provided for calling in their vote with the passcode, or they can vote in person at Honoluu Hale Courtyard or in the Kapolei Hale conference room D, also with their passcode.
According to the Neighborhood Commission, once a ballot is cast, the passcode cannot be used again. To vote online, go to honolulu.gov/nco. For more information, call the commission office at 768-3710.
The new voting procedure is considered less costly and it also saves paper.
