Running a popular beachside steak house for four decades means keeping up with the times. So although they don’t take credit cards at Buzz’s Original Steakhouse, they do used biodegradable utensils and take-out containers. And guests at Buzz’s 45th anniversary bash Nov. 11 got reusable shopping bags as a message about a better lifestyle choice. In fact, for hundreds of guests who braved the rain that day and for many more (including former president Bill Clinton), Buzz’s is a lifestyle choice in and of itself. Founded in 1962 by Bobbie Lou Schneider Yeackel and her then-husband Buzz, the “shack by the sea” remains a favored landmark across the bridge from Kailua Beach Park. Still run by the family, it serves up lunch and dinner daily.
