A Couple Of Gracious Island Hosts

We are regular visitors, having completed over 40 visits. Many years ago our small group met in Waikiki and we have kept in touch all this time. Mac and Normal McCulley of Vancouver, British Columbia, have since rented a condo and car for four to six weeks for our reunions. They have made it a ritual to pick us up and present us with leis. They also take us back to the airport regardless of the departure times.
One of us is a former resident of Oahu - Ida, a widow of a veteran buried at Punchbowl. She makes several trips to spend some time with her departed husband. She lives in California. June and Jack Hatch are from Canada and we are from New Jersey.
Mac and Norma deserve APPLAUSE from all of us. They make our holidays even more enjoyable in paradise!

Dear Liz and Bill,
Mac McCulley says the crowd now includes about 14 people, many from foreign shores, some from the islands. “This is now the 29th year,” he says, “and we all have a great time. Every Wednesday night we have dinner together and talk about enjoying Hawaii. Every year we look forward to it.”
Dear Pamela,
Hats off to Wayne Takane from Kiyo’s Transmission! What a champion! I thought I might have to get a new car. For two months I had my car in and out of different repair shops. I had to catch the bus at 6 a.m. from the country, making my eight-hour day a 12-hour day. As a single parent helping my daughter with college, the thought of a new car kept me up at night.
Wayne found and resolved the problem in a few days. He cared enough to go the extra mile. I’m still in awe with the service I got from Wayne. Mahalo!

Dear Deanna,
“Took me a while to find the problem,” says Wayne Takane. “The problem didn’t show up on any machines, so I had to just drive the car and eliminate the small things. Finally the speed sensor and cable showed up faulty, so I replaced them. It felt good to find the problem. She didn’t need to write a letter, yeh? The boiled peanuts and mochi was good enough, no need letter.”
