Dear Pamela,
A million thanks to Frank DeLima. My husband and I had just gotten through with breakfast at Zippy’s in Kaneohe when we heard Mr. DeLima’s voice in the other booth. I approached his table and asked if I could have his autograph for my grandson Steve. Without hesitation, his breakfast already on the table, he said, “I have some pictures in my van.” He stood up and I followed. He autographed a picture for Steve. God bless this wonderful and kind man. Steve was very, very happy and excited.
Mrs. S. Tanji
Kaneohe
Dear Mrs. Tanji,
“I enjoy what I do and this is just a part of it,” says Frank DeLima. “And of course, when it comes to children, I am always there. I have dedicated myself to at least one school a day, so an autograph is really such a small demand, and I’m happy to provide it. Besides, food is secondary. Food has made me too fat, and Mrs. Tanji took me away from the calories for a few minutes, so she’s the real angel!”
Dear Pamela,
My husband and I were driving home to Laie from Kaneohe. Suddenly smoke was coming from the front of the car, and we discovered flames in the front wheelwell. A man came running from a house and poured water on it, helped us call Windward Chrysler, then waited with us. He even invited us to stay at his house. His name was Pi’ikoi, and he would not take any money for his help. We are so grateful for his kindness!
We also want to thank Brenda at Windward Chrysler for arranging the tow truck and getting a rental car for us. Good people helped ease a very stressful afternoon!
Charlotte Blubaugh
Laie
Dear Charlotte,
Service adviser Brenda Selisi says you are very special customers. “They are older people so I make sure they’re taken care of. Charlotte was so concerned she was bothering me, and I had to keep assuring her it was no trouble at all. They called a tow truck, but they would’ve had to wait for two hours along the road and it was getting dark. A Pro Tow Cal truck was just leaving our grounds, so I begged the driver to pick them up. He deserves APPLAUSE, too!”
(If you know someone who deserves some Applause, send your letters to Pamela Young, MidWeek Applause, KITV, 801 S. King St., Honolulu, HI, 96813 or e-mail pyoung@kitv.com. Include your name, phone number and, if possible, the phone number of your “applaudee” so we can contact him or her.)
