Dear Pamela.
Several weeks ago I was at Honolulu International Airport catching a flight to L.A. with my husband, who is in a wheelchair and nonambulatory. He needed to use the restroom, but requires my assistance. After inquiring, we were told there were no family restrooms, and so I proceeded to the women’s restroom by the security area. My husband was embarrassed and did not want to go in. At just that time a wonderful custodial worker came to our rescue. She saw that we had a serious dilemma and proceeded to put cones at the door to ensure no one would come in while he used the handicap stall. She discerned my frazzled state and was so kind. She then assisted us to the boarding area and offered us reassurance. Her name is Elaine Tashima. Her beautiful gesture of kindness added so much to our trip. It is people like Elaine who remind us how wonderful acts of kindness can be. God bless her! And we applaud and thank her again from the bottom of our hearts!

Dear Wayne and Kathy,
Elaine Tashima, who’s been a custodian at the airport for 10 years, says it was the most convenient course of action. ” I closed up the bathroom because I didn’t want all the ladies coming in while the Asings were inside,“she says. “It didn’t put anybody out because there are many other restrooms. It was OK for everyone.”
Dear Pamela,
Recently my wife lost her wallet at Koko Marina Shopping Center. Without realizing this, I received a call from “caller ID says Teddy’s Bigger,” so I thought I won a contest! Instead, this gentlemen from Teddy’s Bigger Burgers asks if we lost a wallet, and heaven forbid my wife realizes she has no money. I went to pick it up and Henry Telles, who is the co-owner, absolutely refused to accept a small token of appreciation. He says, “I can’t ... it’s just the spirit of aloha to return it to the owner.“Everything was still there, including the cash. Hats off to Henry Telles and his honest, thoughtful employees who are angels sent from heaven! I know where we’re going for burgers!

Dear Lee, Koko Marina Teddy’s Bigger Burgers assistant manager Jessica Williams gives a pat on the back to employee Asia Cohen, who found your wallet. “Our manager, Henry Telles, wouldn’t take a reward for something an employee should do anyway, so he gave Asia a free shake,” she says. “Henry’s a great boss. He cares about his employees and takes good care of us. I transferred here to work for him. He keeps a happy shop.”
