A Lost-And-Found Happy Ending

After a doctor’s appointment, I went to Foodland/Sack N Save stores in Halawa. When I reached home and started putting away the groceries, I noticed I was missing my bracelet. Frantically, I retraced my footsteps leading me back to the car and the mailbox, looking everywhere, and anywhere, I was so determined to find my bracelet. After a few tears, I started making phone calls, first to my doctor’s office then to Foodland/Sack N Save. I asked the courtesy clerk, Phillip, to check with Nani at register No. 2 if she had found any bracelet nearby on the counter or floor. I held my breath as he checked with Nani. Phillip came back on the phone to tell me the wonderful news! It was found! Nani had found my bracelet on the floor near her register! What luck! I would like to give “APPLAUSE” for the sincere honesty and courtesy Phillip and Nani had given me. To them, it was just another bracelet found, but to me, it was my something very special, finding its way back to me.
And another “APPLAUSE” to my husband, Allen, for being so understanding and comforting when I was so upset about losing the bracelet he had given me.

Phillip Galicia says your persistence paid off. “It really helped that she knew which register she checked out at,” he says. “Nani (Harris) found it right away but was so busy she didn’t have time to turn it in to the courtesy counter. We’re happy her sterling silver bracelet got back to her!”

My left leg failed me and I fell at Ala Moana Center, hitting my head as I stepped off the curb to go to the taxi stand near Foodland. As I started to rise, a man in a security shirt said, “Do not get up. Emergency people are on their way.” Then six security men blocked the road to keep traffic away and made room for the ambulance. The emergency crew came and I was given first aid and told to go to Tripler.
Thanks to the management at the shopping center and their efficient handling of emergencies. They do deserve APPLAUSE!

After doing some banking in Kaimuki, my husband and I picked up a lunch plate and decided to eat on the benches at Kaimuki Park on Waialae Avenue. There were some boys playing basketball in the courtyard. It was a very vigorous game with a lot of jostling around, and some of the boys used some offensive language. We are not prudes, please understand, but there were young children also using the park. Finally, one of the boys said, “Hey, chill,” to the ones doing most of the swearing. Then he walked over to us and apologized for the bad language. We were so astounded! We don’t know this young man’s name, but he was wearing a Kalani shirt. We think this boy’s parents deserve a lot of APPLAUSE for raising him right.

Whatever happened to manners? Some people still believe in common courtesy. Kalani vice principal Laura Ahn is happy it was a Falcon who set matters straight. “Like all public schools, we encourage respectful behavior on and off campus,” she says. “We want our students to be self-directed and aware of their communities because very soon they will be adult members of the community.”
