A Safe Haven For Foster Dogs

Returning from a trip to Las Vegas, my sister-in-law fell at the airport, breaking her neck. The accident was catastrophic, requiring immediate surgery and now she is partially paralyzed and will need almost total care. This forced her and my brother to make a heartbreaking decision to give up their nine dogs.
Someone referred me to The Hawaii Dog Foundation, whose goal is to have no homeless dog in Hawaii. They taught me how to clean and feed the dogs until they could be placed in good foster homes. Applications were taken, reviewed and evaluated. In a week they all had homes. What they did was amazing to me. Each dog was handled with so much love and dignity. My brother and his wife were so relieved because their dogs were like their children.
This organization made everything much more bearable. I hope people help them in their efforts, as they have helped us.

Dear Pamela,
My two sons just learned that if you do good, good will come back. We were at Pearlridge and I found a pair of license plates and sunglasses. My sons found a security guard and turned them in. We then went to the Fun Factory. A group of young adults found us and handed me a bunch of tickets and cards. My boys were shocked. I would like to send APPLAUSE to this group of young adults for their act of kindness.

Dear Pamela,
I was at the Mililani Town Association office when my car battery died. Staff worker Deja Kamai immediately volunteered to help me. The battery of the car is under a panel. She removed all the knobs with no trouble, hooked up the cables, and started my car. She also gave me advice on how to handle the situation again. This happened as her office was closing. She could have gone home, but stayed and worked in the rain to assist me. Mahalo and much APPLAUSE to a truly beautiful Samaritan.

“I’m kinda mechanically inclined,” says Deja Kamai, “having grown up around a lot of mechanics. My father was an all-around handy-man: mason, mechanic, carpenter. When Julie came back in to call a tow truck, I thought I might be able to help. It made me feel good. I was touched to do God’s work.”
