A Salute To The U.S. Navy MDSU 1

I am writing to send out my heartfelt thanks to some special men and women of the U.S. Navy - the Mobile Diving & Salvage Unit 1 (MDSU 1). I went to visit my grandfather’s grave at Hawaii Veteran Cemetery. When I got there, I noticed that they were cleaning all the gravesites and making it nice for the families when they visit.
I asked who was in charge of the group; they pointed out a gentleman, I don’t remember his name. I informed him that they had just cleaned my grandfather’s gravesite and I wanted to thank him and his crew for what they had done. It meant so much to me to see these men and women giving back to those who had once served in some branch of the military and who are now passed on, like my grandfather.
I am truly grateful for what they did. I hope more people will see the positive side of the military - like I did today.

“We started this project about four months ago, and plan to do it every quarter,” says Lt. Cmdr. Oscar Rojas of MDSU 1. “This was right before the holidays, a perfect opportunity for 70 of us to go out there and show our appreciation for what other people have done for the liberty we have.”
Dear Pamela,
During my regular exercise walk with a fellow senior citizen in Mililani town, I tripped over an uneven patch of pavement and broke my elbow. Along with my friend’s comforting was a group of concerned residents. They made me comfortable, supplied ice, called for an ambulance and waited until it arrived. One gentleman was an off-duty firefighter who assessed my injuries and gave a full account to the EMS driver. I believe his name was John. I cannot thank them enough for coming to my aid. Thank you for being the people of aloha and caring for your neighbors.
I would also like to thank three sales-people in Waikele: Kehau, Cheryl and Carey, who went beyond the call of duty to help me. I had purchased a grocery cart to wheel my purchases home since I am not able to drive. After paying for it, I realized in order to wheel it home it would need to be assembled. With a combined effort by all of them, it was ready to roll.
Now that is really customer service.
Lucky I live Hawaii. I believe no good deed should go unnoticed.

The paramedics who assisted you when you tripped are Pua Tuulima and Justin Santiago. EMS Chief Norman Hahn says, “They are two very capable and caring individuals we are proud to have in our family of Emergency Medical Services.”
