A Subway Shelter From The Storm

I would like to give APPLAUSE to the women who work at Subway in the Aina Haina Shopping Center. While in training for the marathon, I got stuck literally in a freaky thunder-and-lightning storm. I was soaking wet, looked like a drowned rat, was freezing as it was shivering cold, and the closest place of shelter out of this storm was the Aina Haina Shopping Center.
The employees saw that I was wet as I left a trail of water everywhere I walked, and I was shaking so badly from this storm they probably wondered what crazy person was walking into their store. But you know what? They could see I needed a change of clothes; they looked all over the back storeroom for a Subway shirt so I could change into something warm and dry. I thought the gesture was so kind and courteous. Later, after I sat down under a lamp, an employee gave me a bowl of hot soup “on the house,” which I really appreciated. They went out of their way to help me and I just wanted everyone to know what good Samaritans they truly are!

Your timing was perfect, says Subway salesperson Ellie Feleunga. “He came in just as our power went off, but the soup had already been made. He was really wet and limping. We took care of him as best as we could, then wished him good luck with the marathon.”

I was excited about watching the advance screening of Memoirs of a Geisha, but was disappointed when the box office employee said there were no more tickets available. I returned to the line and explained to my friends the ticket situation, said my goodbyes and started to head home. But to my surprise, a voice in the line said, “I don’t think my girlfriend is going to make it. She’s at work. Here, you can have my ticket.” In my excitement, I merely gave him a huge smile, hugged him like family and thanked him for the “gift.” And this kind gentleman who shared the gift of giving to a total stranger remains anonymous. I neglected to ask him his name in my excitement. Please include my letter in your next column so he can be given APPLAUSE for his kind deed.
I also want to extend APPLAUSE to his girlfriend, who is lucky to have such a generous person in her life.

Fortunately for both your anonymous donor and his girlfriend the film is still playing in Hawaii theaters. Andrea Galvin, whose Aloha Agency is the local rep for Columbia Pictures, is happy you could attend and spread the word about the film. “I’m thrilled she enjoyed the advance screening. It truly is a mesmerizing fable brought to the screen.”
