A Team Of Angels Saves The Day

I was at the Mililani Safeway when I passed out by my car. I have a rare condition that makes me pass out at times, especially if my body gets overheated. A number of people came to my aid, but they were gone before I could get anyone’s name. Someone watched my respirations, someone put a towel under my head, someone held an umbrella over me because it was extremely hot, someone called for help. They all stayed with me until the Honolulu Fire Department and the ambulance showed up. I am truly grateful to all of these angels who came to help me. And to the HFD and paramedics: Mahalo and God bless you all.

Dear Pamela,
I would like to share with the people of Hawaii my story of how a complete stranger helped my daughter and me the day of the horrible gridlock traffic. I was driving home my 10-month-old daughter, Lauryn, when the freeway was closed near Aiea.
After sitting in traffic for more than four hours, I began to worry whether I’d be able to get us home safely. The sun was nearly down, my cellular phone battery died, I didn’t have baby food, and my little one was growing antsy after being in the car seat for such a long period. I thought things couldn’t possibly get any worse, but they did. My gas light went on despite turning off the air conditioner to conserve. Desperate, I got into the emergency lane and drove until I was unable to drive any farther. I stopped behind two cars that were already pulled over in the emergency lane.
In one of the two cars, a woman was trying to comfort her baby. I apologized for interrupting her, and asked if I would be able to borrow her phone to let my husband know where we were. Without hesitation, she gave me her phone and even insisted on giving us a ride to a shopping center in Aiea. I was so touched by her thoughtfulness and willingness to help a complete stranger. We were finally able to get home after six hours in traffic.
I truly believe we were blessed that day. Nona and her 2-month-old baby, Ka’ie, are our angels. Nona’s kindness immediately rekindled my thoughts of the Aloha Spirit - the spirit still does exist and she exemplifies it to its fullest.
Thank you, Nona. I will share this story with my little one in hopes that as she grows up she, too, will always be as thoughtful, kind and caring as you are.

“Throughout my life my mom taught me to help others, to volunteer for community functions,” says Nona Naboa, who’s taking a break from her archeology studies to be a full-time mother. “When I went through tough times, there were always people who helped me. I didn’t even think I was helping someone that day; it was just a natural thing to do.”
