Ambulance Crew Says Mahalo

Two City and County para-medics want to thank the citizens who helped them with a patient on Feb. 7, 2007 at 8:38 p.m. on the H-1 freeway westbound near the Waimalu offramp.
The Aiea Unit had just finished a call and was heading back to quarters. Bystanders flagged them down because a car had crashed into the median light pole. The patient, a male driver in his late 50s or early 60s, had gone into cardiac arrest. The patient was very large, between 300 and 400 pounds, so bystanders assisted the paramedics in extricating the patient from the vehicle and into the waiting ambulance. They also stayed on scene and assisted with traffic control, holding onto IV bags - basically anything they could do to help.
The patient was taken to Pali Momi and unfortunately died, but the paramedics said without the help of the bystanders they more than likely would not have even made it to Pali Momi before he expired.
According to the paramedics there were three men and a couple who helped them at the scene. Sorry they didn’t get names, since the bystanders all left as soon as HFD and HPD arrived, so the paramedics were not able to follow up. They just wanted these “anonymous” angels to know how much they appreciated their help.

We feel our terrific neighbors deserve a tremendous round of APPLAUSE. Our fence was recently damaged by strong winds. Georgia and Greg from down the street came over with materials and tools and helped us to patch it up. Now we have a strong and beautiful fence! Our effort to reimburse them was refused even before we could offer it. We sure are blessed to have such caring and generous neighbors!

Georgia and Greg appreciate your letter, but would not like to have their last name published. Georgia says it was not a difficult task to do for nice neighbors. “They are always helping us,” she says,“so we were glad to do the patching. That’s what neighbors are for.”

A bad day became a good one when Mary Souza chased me down at Ala Moana to return my shopping bag, which I had placed on the ground when I went to use the ATM machine.
I had already walked into Longs, but she recognized my blouse and asked me, “did you lose something?” It makes me feel so good that there are honest people in the world.
