An Angel Turns Out To Be A Nurse

In July I was hurled to the ground by an SUV that backed up and ran over my right arm. The arm was hemorrhaging severely, and someone elegantly dressed knelt down on the bloody pavement and said, “I am a nurse. I am going to help you.” She stopped the bleeding and said, “I am going to wait with you while the ambulance comes.” She also asked if there was anyone I wanted her to call. I gave her the name of Dr. Joyce Cassen, my best friend, who later met me in the trauma unit at Queen’s Medical Center.
The next day, the nurse showed up by my bedside, and it turns out this angel works at Queen’s. Her name is Vanessa Lyons. Surely she belongs in the ranks of the great Florence Nightingale. I wish publicly to acknowledge this heroine.

“Although I was very happy to help someone in need, I cannot take all the credit,” says RN, MSN Vanessa Lyons, endoscopy manager at The Queen’s Medical Center. “I played just one role of many who were quick to react to help Mrs. Marvit, including my husband (an off-duty firefighter), the HFD and EMS.”
Dear Pamela,
APPLAUSE goes to Steven Guynes and his two sons Matt and Andrew. I was coordinating the renovation of the master bathroom for my parents-in-law, and was very concerned that the job would not be properly completed in the allotted time and budget.
Matt originally offered to assist me with the renovation details, but because of our other work/projects, we were unable to coordinate our schedules.
Upon learning of my worry about the bathroom renovation, Steven and Andrew came right over to the house and immediately went to work: inspecting and cleaning the bathroom vent, installing towel bars, robe hooks, ceiling lights and a dimmer switch, as well as pointing out a few items that needed special attention.
I am so grateful to Steve, Andrew and Matt.

“I e-mailed her to say her APPLAUSE letter wasn’t necessary, but very much appreciated,” says Steve Guynes. “I learned from my son Matt that she needed some assistance, and it was a good time for me. I volunteer teaching a class in financial management and I know sometimes people just need a helping hand. I was very happy to do it.”
