Angels Of Aloha Are All Around

We were driving on Nimitz Highway when our tire blew. Of all days, we didn’t bring a cell phone, and concerned drivers were slowing down to let us know we had a flat tire. As we made our way to Ke‘ehi Lagoon Park, I saw a couple pulling in and I flagged them down. They graciously allowed us to use their cell to call our rental company, but we got no answer. This couple was on their way to their great-grandson’s birthday party. My husband was preparing to change the tire when two men suddenly appeared on bicycles and offered to change the tire for us. My husband told them no bother, but they insisted, saying they didn’t want him to get dirty. While they worked, my husband asked them where they lived, and one pointed to a nearby tree. The other said he lived in his van. They had the tire changed in minutes and then refused to take money, but we insisted. Their names were Greg and Tony. We hugged them and told them they were our angels. Tony replied, “I believe in them you know” as they prepared to ride away. As quickly as they appeared, they disappeared. We were overwhelmed that these two men would come to our aid. Angels do walk among us, and they take many forms, sometimes even disguised as homeless people.
We’ll return to Hawaii in November for our annual six-month stay and plan to go back to the park to look for these special angels. The aloha spirit can be found in the most unexpected moments and places. God Bless these two men and the sweet couple who stopped for us. Our hearts are filled with gratitude.

Dear Pamela,
Please convey my heartfelt thanks to two angels who came to my aid on 10th Avenue in Palolo, when I was struggling to hold up my husband whose leg started to buckle. He uses a walker to get around after suffering a stroke two years ago. If not for those two good Samaritans, he would have fallen to the ground. Hopefully they will read my thanks and know of my appreciation.

My mom left her handbag hanging on the back of her chair at the Pearlridge Downtown food court. We did not realize the handbag was missing until we reached home in Salt Lake. While my sister called the security folks, I rushed back to Pearlridge to search the food court area. Needless to say, the handbag was gone. As I spoke to my sister on the phone, our mom was rushing to open the house door. A couple pulling into the driveway were strangers, but they told Mom about finding the handbag and wanted to make sure she got it back as soon as possible. Mom was overcome with joy since it meant my sister would not need to call to cancel bank cards, etc.
In the excitement, neither Mom nor my sister got the name of this wonderful couple, but hopefully, they will see this and know how appreciative we all are of their kindness in taking the time to find mom’s house and returning the handbag so quickly! Mahalo to this considerate couple and may they receive goodness in kind.
