Appreciating All Of Life’s Angels

I am so excited to have the opportunity to give APPLAUSE to several people who have made appearances in my life as anonymous angels.
On Thanksgiving day I was rushing to get dinner ready. My mother went out to get ice cream and some last-second ingredients, but I began to worry when she was not home after two hours. Imagine my surprise when a sweet man arrived at my door saddled with grocery bags! He had stopped to help my mother when her car broke down. I wish he had stayed to join us but, of course, he had his own family to get home to. He brought me new-found appreciation for the meaning of thanks. ... Talk about broken down cars. On another occasion, my car died while getting my daughter to school. A kind elderly lady pulled over to help and when she saw my daughter’s situation, she offered to drive her the half hour through morning traffic to get her to school on time.
I’ve always wanted to give a huge mahalo to the always helpful and kind young military men who have stopped to help my mother and me times over the last 20 years when our cars have broken down on the side of the road or needed a tire change.
Another angel touched my life and I never had a chance to thank her.
When my daughter was 2, I was at Sears at Ala Moana, and I was 9 months pregnant with my second child. In the blink of an eye, my daughter had taken off and when I couldn’t find her, I had an announcement made over the loudspeaker. After searching for her for more than 20 minutes to no avail, I finally broke down, grief-stricken and exhausted. Right then a little old lady walked up to me and she was holding my daughter’s hand. The lady was gone before I could thank her.

Dear Rasa,
There is an old Hindu proverb that says each person must do three things before they leave this earth: Forgive, ask for forgiveness, and give thanks. Each action frees the heart and makes the journey lighter. I have a feeling your mahalos brightened the day for many readers.
