A few weeks ago we stopped at Wal-Mart on Keeaumuku for some last-minute items before I checked into the hospital for emergency surgery. We got to the checkout, and experienced that sinking feeling when my husband realized his wallet was not in his pocket. We hurried back to the car to see if it was there. The car was locked; we guess the wallet fell out of his pocket as he was getting out because there is was, neatly tucked under the wind-shield wiper. Some wonderful person had picked it up, everything intact, cash, driver license, credit cards, even the hospital admittance forms. First the intense relief, and then the feeling of frustration that some very special person had been here and we had no way to say thank you. I sincerely hope whoever it was will see this and know how very much it meant to us. Mahalo and Aloha.

I made a withdrawal from the ATM machine outside Bank of Hawaii, across the street from Ala Moana Center. Being such an airhead in a hurry, I forgot to take my Visa card with me after I got the money and my receipt. So, I went across the street to buy something from the mall, and then noticed that my card was not in my wallet! I think my heart skipped a beat. I frenzied back to the bank, but of course my card was gone. I went inside the bank and asked one of the tellers, who advised me to cancel my account and get a new credit card at the “New Accounts & Loans” counter. I hurried over, and the guy there had my credit card in his hand already! He said he was just about to call me, as someone had just turned it in. He could only tell me it was “an elderly gentleman.”
Whoever this gentleman is: MAHALO for making my day so much easier, and for showing me that there are still honest people in this world!

I would like to thank the Honolulu Police Department and especially the officer who assisted our daughter Heather when she had a flat tire on the H-1 freeway near the Bingham exit. My wife and I are very grateful to this police officer, who went out was his way to help our daughter. We’re sorry, but we didn’t get the officer’s name or badge number. He and HPD deserve a big mahalo for all their help.
