Caring For Customers At Wal-Mart

Dear Pamela,
On the way to work in Waikiki one morning, my husband Rodney’s truck tire had a major blowout. He swerved all over the H-2, but with his Guardian Angel on his shoulder he avoided a major accident. After he gathered his senses, and realizing he had no spare tire, or a cell phone to contact our insurance company to arrange for a tow truck, so he decided to stick out his thumb and see if he could hitchhike a ride to the nearest phone booth.
Philip J.K. Doseo, the executive loan officer at Territorial Savings Bank on Bishop Street, stopped and gave my husband a ride, let him use his cell phone, then drove Rodney to the Mililani Wal-Mart to wait for me to come to pick him up and to arrange for a tow truck. Our neighbor David Quist was on his way to Waikiki that morning, so I called him on his cell to tell him what had happened to Rodney. David said he saw Rodney’s truck on the side of the freeway and turned around to go to the Wal-Mart in Mililani.
To let Rodney know that David was on his way, I called the Wal-Mart in Mililani and Della answered the phone. I told her what was happening and gave her the description of my husband. Della volunteered to go outside herself, find my husband and give him my message. By the end of the day, all was right with Rodney and his truck.
Della, Philip and David all deserve a big APPLAUSE from Rodney and myself. When people say there is no more “Aloha” left on the Island, I beg to differ with them. What would we have done without the kokua of our neighbor, and the angels that God puts in our lives?

Dear Kathy,
“I love customer service,” says Wal-Mart receptionist Della Joaquin. “I’ve been working here for 12 years and I like meeting people. It was out of my way, but one of my girls took over the phones while I went outside. I found her husband right away. He was happy to get the message.”
Dear Pamela,
I after shopping at Wal-Mart Mililani I came home not knowing I misplaced my handbag. I rushed back to the store and was told to see the red-vested ladies inside. Someone had turned my purse in. I’m so grateful to know there is a truly honest person. I want to thank her personally, and also Annette and the ladies in customer service. Thank you for being there for me with your warm greetings and comfort.
