While driving on the H-1, a recliner we were transporting broke the ropes securing it to our truck and fell off in the middle lane. We called 911 to alert the police there was a hazard. We pulled over to the shoulder to wait for the police to come. To our amazement, a large, dark pickup truck stopped near the recliner. The driver got out in the middle of all the traffic, picked up the recliner single-handedly and carried the recliner to the shoulder of the freeway. He had to cross two lanes of traffic to get back to his truck. He immediately drove off because of the backed-up traffic.
We never got the opportunity to thank him for his bravery and thoughtfulness. We hope he reads this and knows we truly appreciate his positive action.

We would like to say a Big Mahalo to two gentlemen who helped our elderly mother when she fell in a crosswalk while trying to catch a bus near Kanunu Street. It was a hard fall, but thank God she did not lose consciousness or break any bones, though she did get a big cut on her leg. She was in a daze after the fall, so she didn’t get to ask their names, especially the gentleman who stayed back with her to make sure she was all right before leaving her at a bus stop.
We truly appreciate these kind gentlemen for their willingness to lend a helping hand to an elderly lady in distress.

We tend to overlook random acts of kindness we can each perform for others. Mr. Nonaka made my day as I was rushing around trying to get a million things done before my youngest son arrived from Maui. I carelessly locked my purse and keys in my trunk after shopping. I must have looked utterly distressed because as Mr. Nonaka walked to his truck he asked if I needed help. I told him I had just called AAA. When he finished loading his groceries, he pulled out a perfect, luscious avocado and gave it to me.
I just want Mr. Nonaka to know that his generosity made such a positive difference in a stressful day. He was a knight in shining armor. Many thanks.
