Connecting With Kindness

While driving home one night after work, suddenly sparks and smoke started coming out of my steering wheel. I turned off the ignition and the smoke stopped. Unfortunately, my car was blocking the right lane near the busy Beretania/McCully intersection. While trying to phone someone to help me, a man and a woman pushed my car into a nearby lot. The man was a mechanic and looked under my car’s hood, but there was nothing he could do.
It all happened so fast that I did not get their names. I would like to express a huge mahalo to this couple for their kindness. I hope that one day someone returns that kindness to them.

Dear Pamela,
I was driving on Kamehameha Highway when I heard a noise. Thinking I had a flat tire, I pulled over. Immediately several nice young men stopped to help.
They checked the wheel and noticed all the lug nuts were off and the wheel was ready to fall off. One fellow called AAA for me on his cell phone since I did not have one. He also let me call my husband. They told me to put the emergency flashers on and stay in the car to wait for the tow truck.
I only remember one fellow’s name: Eric. Mahalo to him and his friends God’s angels.

A very big mahalo to Susie of Kaneohe, who helped me when I fell on TheBus. Much APPLAUSE also to the police officer who lifted me up. I didn’t get his name. I’m a very large woman and it took the bus driver and the policeman to lift me. A very special thanks to Susie as she walked me all the way up Alapai Street from Beretania right to my apartment door, carrying my backpack with groceries. God bless you.

Dear Pamela,
I am a 76-year-old woman who has a medical condition that affects the immune system and causes extreme fatigue. While sitting in front of Safeway waiting for my ride, I looked tired and weak.
This kind gentleman named Jerry approached me, very concerned, and insisted on giving me some money. It is comforting to know that there are nice people like Jerry who are deeply caring. Thank you, Jerry, for your compassion. May God bless you!
